Chicks and Balls Media - Commissioned work
Brand identity refresh and podcast cover art

Chicks and Balls Media is an independent, fan-led sports media platform by women, for everyone. Evolving from the original Chicks and Balls podcast, the brand expands beyond traditional sports commentary to deliver sharp analysis, bold opinion, and layered storytelling across sport, culture, fashion, and fandom. It champions women’s sport fiercely while also engaging with the wider sports landscape, challenging the conventions of male-dominated sports media with intelligence, humour, and inclusivity.

I worked with Chicks and Balls Media to develop a refreshed brand identity to support the relaunch and reflect its growing scope and authority. This included the creation of three versatile logos [Chicks and Balls Media, Chicks and Balls Podcast, and Chicks and Balls] designed to function seamlessly across multiple platforms and applications. I also designed the podcast cover art, ensuring strong visual impact at small scales across streaming and social channels.

The final concept centres on a custom designed rounded and bold typeface with roots in editorial and signage design. Its structured forms and confident presence echo the legitimacy of traditional sports media. The design aims to feel sporty without being blokey, and editorial without being elitist, reflecting a fan-first approach that values accessibility.

For the Media and Podcast arms, I paired the custom type with Monaco, a monospace typeface that introduces subtle contrast and reinforces the brand’s independent, creative spirit. This dual-type system allows the identity to scale cleanly across podcast thumbnails, social video frames, editorial layouts, and merchandise, while maintaining clarity and impact. Importantly, the type-led approach avoids gendered visual tropes, resulting in a look that is sharp, stylish, and strong.

Illustrative elements were introduced to enhance the brand’s personality and bring a sense of fun that is central to Chicks and Balls’ identity. These additions signal a more approachable, community-driven tone.

Briefly, the identity plays hard, looks smart, and creates a visual home for a new generation of sports fans.
